Die Daten der Schweinswal-Sichtungskarten werden ebenfalls dazu genutzt wissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse über die Verbreitung des Ostsee-Schweinswals zu gewinnen.
Diese Publikationen werden dann unter anderem im Wissenschaftsausschuss des Kleinwaleabkommens ASCOBANS vorgestellt und dienen zusammen mit anderen Veröffentlichungen der Entscheidungsfindung bei der Umsetzung von Schutzmaßnahmen.
